Last year brought several new tango’s into the repertory. The collection of early Pugliese Instrumental got a wonderful addition with Amurado! This tango is perhaps most famous for dancers from Pedro Laurenz, but the Pugliese recording (1944) is a gorgeous instrumental arrangement that fits very well with the other Pugliese instrumentals from this era. (El Monito, Derecho Viejo, Recuerdo)
I’ve also been buiding a tanda of Orquesta Tipica Victor tangos. OTV is a “studio orchestra,” an all star line up of virtuosic tango players. Under the direction (initially) of Adolfo Carabelli, this orchestra recorded several beloved tangos, although the orchestra never performed live, the recordings are well known by dancers and DJs. First up, Ventarron! An adventurous “Gansta” tango with drama, energy, and impact. Then comes a very sweet instrumental tango, Coqueta. The third in this collection is Lo Vi En Tus Ojos, this is an instrumental adaption of the recording from 1944, and a great example of the later style of this iconic orchestra.
Finally, I’ve added another vocal tango in mezzo soprano range. Todo Es Amor is a beloved tango popularized by Biagi, Salamanca, Tanturi, Romantica Milonguero…the version here is based on an arrangment publised by Hector Stamponi, but adapted/transcribed for female vocal.
Enjoy the new music and if you feel so inclined/inspired please support the creation of further arrangements of great dance music through the Donation link.
