This is a favorite tango, full of drama, lyricism, and power. The composition is from the Bandoneon giants Pedro Maffia and Pedro Laurenz, and the variation in the last section is legendary (and very nicely written for the instrument 😉 ). The version here is an instrumental from Osvaldo Pugliese, recorded in 1944. While the core of the composition is preserved, including the variation, the Pugliese version create a sophisticated, dynamic texture, more nuanced then the well known Laurenz version. It is a very good match for El Monito, Derecho Viejo, and Recuerdo, all recorded around the same time.
